Welcome to the new eMagazine format of Maritime Reporter & Engineering News, this the first of three eMagazine-only editions coming to you in 2021, each one dominated by a single subject, in this case Dredging.

This global pandemic unfortunately continues to dominate the day-to-day of our personal and professional lives, but as always there is a silver lining. My strong personal preference will be to get back on the road and the water, to visit with our clients, colleagues and friends in conferences and exhibitions, in your offices and on site at your projects to discuss the people, the technologies and the techniques that are driving this maritime business forward fast. But having been in this business for nearly 30 years, I am adept at going to ‘plan B’ with a vigor.

Plan B in this regard generally entails connecting with senior executives globally via video chat in lieu of a personal visit. Our cover feature, the interview with Bill T. Dutra, CEO of The Dutra Group, was amazing because Dutra’s commitment to his company that bears his family’s name was assumed, but Dutra’s passion transcends architectural drawings and balance sheets. He and his family have a century-plus, deep-rooted connection to the community, the businesses, the family and the friends upon which his success was built, and I thank him for taking the time to walk me through The Dutra Group’s history, its present and its future.

As you scroll through this new format, please feel free to drop me a note with your thoughts, and as always, let me know about the projects you’re working on today for a feature in our pages, print and electronic, tomorrow.
