Crowley Scholarships for Maine Maritime Cadets

Cadets Anna LaDue and Odegaard Fields from Maine Maritime Academy have been awarded the Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship. These students were selected based on their performance during the cadet training periods aboard Crowley-operated or -managed ships and their intent to pursue maritime careers. LaDue, a junior from Canterbury, New Hampshire, is studying marine transportation operations. Fields, a junior from New Marlborough, Massachusetts, is pursuing a degree in marine transportation operations. Since 1984, Crowley has provided over $3 million dollars in scholarships to more than 1,000 students studying at maritime academies and other select schools in the United States mainland, Puerto Rico and Central America.

AES Acquires CWind Ltd from Inspirit Capital

All Energies Services Group (AES Group), a provider of sustainable energy solutions, announced the acquisition of CWind Ltd, a provider of offshore wind services, from private equity firm Inspirit Capital. This strategic acquisition marks a significant milestone in AES Group's mission to expand its footprint in the renewable energy sector and reinforces its commitment to driving the global transition to clean energy. The integration of CWind into the AES Group portfolio will enhance the group’s capabilities in offshore wind operations, strengthening its position as a trusted partner for the delivery of high-quality, sustainable energy services.

Great Lakes Iron Ore Trade Down 2.5 PCT in 2024

Shipments of iron ore on the Great Lakes totaled 4.6 million tons in December, a decrease of 4.5 percent compared to a year ago. Shipments were just slightly above the 5-year average for the month. The year-end total for the iron ore trade stands at 49.8 million tons, a decrease of 2.5 percent compared to 2023. Nevertheless, compared to the trade’s 5-year average, 2024 iron ore loadings were up 3.8 percent.

RADM Richard Timme (Ret.) Joins OMSA

The Offshore Marine Service Association (OMSA) announced that Rear Admiral Richard V. Timme, U.S. Coast Guard (Ret.), has joined OMSA as a Senior Advisor. This appointment underscores OMSA’s longstanding commitment to working collaboratively with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and other regulatory agencies to develop practical, common-sense solutions that enhance the safety and security of the U.S. maritime industry.

ABYC Announces Board Members

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) welcomed new board members and honored industry leaders at its annual meeting on Jan. 6 in San Antonio, Texas. The event marked the official start of ABYC Standards Week, where experts across the marine industry gather to review and update safety standards for the design, construction, and repair of recreational boats. The 2025 board of directors was announced, including new member Paulee Day, chief administrative officer and corporate secretary of West Marine. The elected officers are Christina Paul, Chair, Cindy Squires, Vice Chair, Pete Chisholm, Technical Chair, Derek Rhymes, Treasurer, and Jeff Wasil, Past Chair.

Crowley Expands Harbor Services with Main Line Acquisition

Crowley announced in early January that it has expanded its harbor services capabilities through the acquisition of Main Line Inc., a vessel mooring company based in Seattle. The addition of Main Line will provide Crowley’s customers calling on the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, Washington with a comprehensive solution for their vessel mooring and ship assist needs. Main Line staff members are transitioning to Crowley as part of the asset purchase agreement. Terms were not disclosed.

Danos Names Habbit Decommissioning Operations Manager

Danos has promoted Blake Habbit to lead the growth and development of the company's Gulf of Mexico decommissioning services. As operations manager, Habbit will oversee business operations and customer support throughout the decommissioning phase. With 25 years of industry experience covering offshore production operations, drilling and safety, Habbit joined Danos as a production services account manager in 2019 and was named senior account manager in 2023. He earned an associate degree in occupational health and safety from Columbia Southern University.

Feurtado Appointed Manager – Marine Systems at TDI Brooks Int’l

TDI Brooks announced the appointment of Frank Feurtado as Manager – Marine Systems. With an impressive career spanning over 25 years in the international maritime industry, Frank initially served as a Marine Electronics Technician before climbing the ranks to become a Captain. Since 2000, he has led marine operations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, significantly contributing to the development and success of Offshore Oil & Gas divisions for two of the world’s leading Shipmanagement companies. In his new capacity at TDI Brooks, Frank will oversee the management, optimization, and enhancement of marine systems, focusing on operational excellence and the integration of cutting-edge technology.

Gadzinski is Burger’s 2024 Associate of the Year

Tony Gadzinski has been recognized as Burger Boat’s 2024 Associate of the Year. This recognition celebrates Tony’s exceptional dedication, craftsmanship, and contributions to the company’s continued success. Tony has been an integral part of the Burger team for 16 years. Known for his unwavering commitment to excellence and innovative problem-solving, Tony plays a pivotal role in the construction of every vessel built at Burger’s shipyard. The Associate of the Year award is an annual Burger tradition, highlighting the importance of each associate’s role in maintaining Burger’s legacy of excellence in yacht building.

Herndon is Brig USA and Fluid Marine’s New President

Brig USA and Fluid Marine announced that Carl Herndon was recently named company President. Herndon will lead Brig USA’s recreational Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) division as well as Fluid Marine’s Patrol, Search and Rescue (SAR) and Swift Water Rescue (SWR) boat sales and production.

Herndon is an industry veteran with 30 years of experience and is best known for designing and manufacturing semi-custom production boats.

BoatUS Foundation’s Sensenbrenner Appointed to NBSAC

Ted Sensenbrenner, BoatUS Foundation Director of Boating Safety, has been appointed by the Director of Homeland Security as a Representative to the National boating Safety Advisory Committee (NBSAC). A coalition of recreational boating safety, state boating officials, national boating organizations, and boat and equipment manufacturers, NBSAC provides valuable assistance to the Department of Homeland Security, through the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, on matters related to recreational boating safety. Sensenbrenner is charged as one of seven individuals representing national recreational boating organizations and public interests on the 21-member committee. An alumnus of The College of St. Mary’s who now hails from Crownsville, Maryland, Sensenbrenner also teaches and develops local youth sailing programs.

Vigor Announces Mark Norris as New Marine Fabrication Vice President

Vigor announced Mark Norris has joined the company as Vice President of Marine Fabrication. Norris will oversee one of the leading and most innovative marine vessel fabricators in the U.S., which is currently in production on the Maneuver Support Vehicle (Light), or MSVL, the U.S. Army’s new generation landing craft. He will be responsible for growing and maintaining an experienced, skilled team, while leading Vigor’s defense and commercial marine fabrication projects. A veteran of the defense and marine industries, Mark has nearly four decades of experience leading major defense programs.

Kasionis joins BMT as Marine Consultant

BMT announced the appointment of Panagiotis (Panos) Kasionis as Marine Consultant, strengthening its presence in the marine surveys market across The Netherlands and Europe. Panos brings a wealth of operational experience, expertise in marine inspections, and a passion for advancing maritime consultancy. Panos graduated as a Deck Officer from the Merchant Marine Academy of Macedonia in 2016 and obtained his Captain Class C certification in 2018. During his time at sea, he sailed up to the rank of Captain on smaller vessels, gaining extensive experience on a variety of ship types, including bulk carriers, tankers, fishing vessels, and passenger ships. Complementing his operational expertise, Panos pursued advanced qualifications, earning an Advanced Diploma in Marine Surveying in 2021.
